We’ve just completed a successful run of Wednesdays at Winterthur walk/talks/demos for 2008. Thank you for your participation and interest!
Time to begin thinking about next year. What are your ideas for topics? What interests you? What would you like to learn about? Who would you like to hear from? Any part of the estate or garden you’d like to explore? What challenges do you face in your own garden? (Sorry…we can’t address problems with human gardening partners!)
Help us plan a fresh, lively and pertinent program in 2009!
(Wednesdays at Winterthur are held each Wednesday, March through October excepting August, at 11:30 a.m. They last about one hour and are open to all ticketed guests and members.)
I attended a Wednesday walk that took us to the farming operation at Winterthur. Before we left, we smelled something delightful. The leaders said it was a type of holly, and they would find out and post it on your site. What is it? How can I acquire this beautiful plant? Thank you.
Thanks for your inquiry! That is a lovely plant - spectacular this year! The name is Osmanthus heterophyllus. There are several cultivars in the trade; this is the straight species. The Hardy Plant Society has a plant locator on their web site that might be helpful; gives nursery locations based on your zip code. http://www.hardyplant.org/ Look in the lower right corner for a plant source of the Delaware valley link.
Best of luck in your search - let me know how it turns out!
