On our 2nd Saturday Walk in December, I told a hardy group of members that Winterthur had something in flower, outdoors, every month of the year. It is remarkable that plants find a way to produce flowers even in the coldest months. Many of these plants have adaptations that allow them to tolerate frost on petals, snow on branches, and roots in the cold, frozen ground. Below are some photographs of snowdrops and vernal witch hazel. We also have winter jasmine and hellebores in flower – photos soon to follow.

Join us this weekend for a walk through the garden on our 2nd Saturday Walk at 1:00 pm in the Visitor Center (more information at www.winterthur.org/calendar/garden_programs).

Thank you for the sound critique. Me and my neighbor were just preparing to do some research about this. I am very happy to see such great information being shared freely out there.
