Guest “speaker,” Greg Landrey shares his observations of Monday, March 23rd in the Winterthur Garden:
This morning at sun rise I walked through the garden and the March bank in particular. The setting and feel of the land was very special even though the temperature was below freezing and most of the blues, whites and yellows were muted behind the closed glory-of-the-snow, squill and snow drop petals. The indicators of spring were everywhere just like the promise of the day with the sun barely visible on the horizon through the bare tulip poplar and beeches. This garden is a particularly special place to be in the early morning at the very beginning of the spring season.

We have visited Winterthur many times each year. Always making sure to catch the March Bank…As I recall, 2009 was a very good year..We often combine our day trips, from Moorestown, NJ, to stop at Winterthur, walk, have lunch, and proceed to Longwood… Sue loves to watch for the Blue Birds that are so well cared for at Winterthur…THANK YOU for being there
And thank you for your kind comments. I’ll pass along your note to the horticulturist, Jim Smith, who cares for the bluebird houses as well as our volunteers who count the eggs and hatchlings each year. Karen
