Enchanted Summer Day
Saturday, June 20, 2009
11:00 am – 3:00 pm
Rain or shine event!
Come celebrate the beginning of summer with your family in Winterthur’s Enchanted Woods! Have the fairies been at work? Come discover the Enchanted Woods’ newest feature, the Upside-Down Tree! With its trunk reaching skyward and its arms gracing the ground, it makes a perfect home for the fairies who live inside.
This year, make garden-related crafts such as a “Wee Person’s House,” a “Fairy Crown” and/or a “Green Man Mask,” enjoy toe-tapping music from the Brandywine Fiddlers of the Wilmington Music School, the strolling Celtic musicians Slyte of Hand, and Celtic dance performances by dancers from the McAleer School of Irish Dancing.
Help decorate the garden’s giant Bird’s Nest with colorful ribbon, participate in a Maypole dance, and watch a hilarious Punch & Judy show with magic performed by Professor Horn! Try old-fashioned games, delicious ice cream from Woodside Farms Creamery (addt’l $), face painting (addt’l $), and much more. It’s sure to be a fun-filled day outside for the whole family. In case of rain, most events will be re-located inside the museum complex.
Included with all admission tickets. Winterthur Members free. Young guests are invited to come in their favorite fairie, wizard, troll, or pirate costumes to help imaginations soar. Event most appropriate for children ages 3 – 12. Visit www.winterthur.org for more details and event times. Programming subject to change.

Hi,
My wife visited Winterthur today, and brought home a gift milkweed plant. I’ve planted it near my Asclepias, and am writing to ask you: What species of milkweed were you giving out today?
Thanks,
Mitch Dormont
Hi Mitch,
We were giving away the tropical milkweed, Asclepias curassavica. It should flower for you all summer until frost.
Chris
