Matt Mickletz, art handling specialist at Winterthur, reports on he and his wife’s first vegetable garden together. Willing staff members are assigned garden plots at Winterthur.
It is our first garden together and we have been having a great time trying our green thumbs out. My wife’s father’s side of the family has been farmers for generations in Ohio; they mainly farm acres of corn for livestock. My family can trace back to farmers as well, the most recent being my grandfather, in retirement for recreation, on my mother’s side; he had a massive strawberry patch, not to mention the tomatoes, gourds and whatever he felt like growing. My and my wife’s folks have still love to grow kitchen gardens and spread the wealth. So basically, it’s in our blood.
