These are a few pictures of the many I took of this groundhog a few weeks ago while a friend and I were having lunch near the path behind the reflecting pool.
This furry resident of the Winterthur Estate was seen carrying a mouthful of leaves to his burrow, most likely preparing for hibernation. It was very amusing to see it trying to decide how to get to the other side of the road. Our presence caused him to hesitate for fear of giving away his secret hideaway. His back and forth pacing gave me ample opportunity to take various snap shots of him/her. Finally it mustered up the courage to cross over and quickly slip away, out of site into his refuge.
