This morning, my task was to document the Yuletide tour on the 5th and 6th floors of the house. (This blue wreath is in the window of the Baltimore Room on the 5th floor.)
If you haven’t seen it yet, hurry in this week; the tour closes on Sunday, January 10th. You are sure to enjoy the delicately decorated rooms and trees. The conservatory is particularly grand, saturated with bright color and sweet fragrance.
As I went from room to room, I caught glimpses of the garden through the windows and realized it had been much too long since I had visited the garden. So, I bundled up and headed out. To my delight, the sun danced in and out of the gray clouds, lighting the landscape and varying the scene. I am sure it is my anthropomorphic imagination, but it felt like the trees were breathing a sigh of relief that they had survived the incredible winds and heavy snow of late.
The garden pulled me further and further into the landscape, chilly my ears but refreshing my soul with beauty. Finally coming inside to warm my fingers, I offer a few photos from this afternoon. Perhaps you will be encouraged to take a stroll through the Winterthur Garden this winter. It’s a privilege to have the garden to oneself on a brisk winter day.
