The Winterthur Garden made out fairly well in the recent storm and we still have some terrific fall color! We lost two oaks near the Visitor Center and we will be evaluating the trees they damaged as they fell.
- Oak near Visitor Center
- Visitor Center Oak
- Azalea Woods
- Azalea Woods
- Azalea Woods
- Hickory Tree near Icewell Terrace
A tulip-poplar in Azalea Woods lost some large branches and damaged the azaleas and two flowering dogwoods beneath it. Unfortunately we will have to remove what is left of that tree.
And once again the railing along the Quarry bridge has been damaged! The red maple near the bridge lost some limbs. We’ll keep you posted if we need to close off the bridge again as it is repaired.
The other major tree loss will be a hickory near the Icewell Terrace.
Overall we were very fortunate and hope you will be out soon to enjoy the remaining fall color.

Glad to hear that the Garden made out fairly well from Sandy
It’s a lot of work for the arborists but it could have been much worse.
